The Drayton Valley Thunder have traded the playing rights of ’04 F Gavin Middendorf to the Blackfalds Bulldogs of the Alberta Junior Hockey League in exchange for ’06 F Ty Gordon and ’04 D Alexey Trischuk.
Gordon (St. Albert, AB) is a 6th round pick of the Prince Albert Raiders in the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft.
Ty played last season for the CAC Canadians U17AAA program where he led the league in scoring with 29 goals 28 assists tallying 57 points to go along with 93 Penalty minutes.
“Ty is a player who really excites us as a staff, he is a very talented and skilled forward with a high hockey IQ. We had a great chat with Ty and his parents and it was clear he comes from good people and we are aligned in helping Ty become the best player and person he can be. Being a younger guy he fits the mold of someone who can grow with the program and we expect big things from Ty this season and in the future as well”, say Thunder Head Coach and GM Geoff Walker.
Trischuk (Calgary, AB) will be entering his third full season in the AJHL. He has split time between the Drumheller Dragons and Blackfalds Bulldogs over the past two seasons totalling 26 points in 98 appearances.
“Trischuk is a guy we have done a lot of homework on leading up to this trade. He skates extremely well can play against other teams top lines and is a very well rounded defenceman. Also, has experience in both regular season and playoffs in the league. He will add some stability to the top end of our D core this season. We also believe there is some untapped offensive ability with his shot and he will have that opportunity here this season as well,” says Head Coach and GM Geoff Walker.
We are very pleased to Welcome both of these players to the Drayton Valley Thunder for the 2023/24 season. Catch them in action when training camp opens on August 19 at the Omniplex in Drayton Valley.
