On February 23, our Drayton Valley Thunder hosted the Grande Prairie Storm in Thunder’s third last game of the season. It was another exciting game that could have gone either way. In the early part of the game Thunder was first to light up the lamp when #4 Tyler Hart directed the puck towards #9 Brendan McKay. Brendan then ripped a hard shot in and out of the net so fast that fans and players were half cheering and half holding their breath as the ref was slow to motion a goal. Thankfully he eventually realized that he saw as we did—the puck did go in.
During the second period fans only saw two pucks enter the net and it wasn’t GP’s net unfortunately. It was hard for Thunder to get anything going this period with all the penalty interruptions throughout the entire period.
The third period stayed 3-2 for the majority of that time right up until the 16:00 minute mark. At that time #25 Luke Madill made sure that the Home Star of the game got the puck. #21 Eric Sieben made no mistake this time getting the puck past GP Goalie #20 Nick Kulmanovsky tying the game up. The score remained tied for the majority of the third and right through the overtime period. So now both sides prepared for the shoot out. Fans did cross their fingers but unfortunately GP was the only one to get a puck in the net. Following the 3-2 win for Grande Prairie Storm, the crowd applauded in agreement when #21 Eric Sieben was announced as DV’s star. Now, with that game over, we look forward to the next game on Saturday March 1st against the Whitecourt Wolverines. The puck will be dropping at 7:30 in our barn so make sure you gather as many friends as you can and bring them to the game to cheer loud and long for Thunder. Before the puck drops, Thunder President Scott Carter and Vice President Steve McKort will be handing out the Awards for the 2012-2013 season so make sure you are early. You do not miss out on cheering for the award winners. Let’s Go Thunderrrrrrr!!!! See you there.
