Thunder Begins Season on a Positive Note

Drayton Valley Thunder's first league game last night against the Whitecourt Wolverines was officially under way when MLA Mark Smith dropped the puck for team captains: #11 Joseph Nardi (Whitecourt) and #8 Braden Jakubowski (Drayton Valley). There were a lot of opening night gitters in the first period with the Wolverines being the first to score but the remainder of the game was a different story as Thunder answered back twice in the second period. Thunder's first goal came in a power play by Tyler Benko from NIcholas Sutter and Michael doneff and the second was an unassisted beauty from Rhett Willcox. In the third the Wolverines came back to tie the game and briefly to the lead by one until Andrew Troy tied it back up with an unassisted goal. The game remained tied until the end of the third resulted in OT. Shortly into the overtime Michael Doneff set up Micheal Cardinal to seal the game for Thunder's first win of the season.

Thunder drove up to Whitecourt tonight to take on the Wolverines again with puck dropping at 7:30 pm. Good Luck Thunder!!
