Poirier Lights The Lamp At Both Ends.

Tonight it was the Grande Prairie Storm who made the bus trip down from the north but it was our Drayton Valley Thunder who finally turned things around and sent GP packing with a 4-3 loss at the end of the night. In the first period, it was #17 Trevor Poirier who got the spark going for Thunder when he whipped one passed net minder #31 Curtis Skip. The second goal of the night for Thunder came off the stick of #7 Shane Brolly from #28 Neil Tarnasky and #4 Tyler Hart. And then again at the 15:36 mark, #4 Tyler Hart smashed another one at Skip who kicked it out front. #9 Brendan McKay was ready for the rebound, smashing it right back at Skip who was unable to keep it out. Now with less than five minutes in the game, fans are thinking this one was in the bag at 3-2 but with less than two minutes in the third, the Storm burst our bubble. Neither team was able to get one in before the whistle ended the third so the teams setup for overtime. The clock ticked away quickly and with just three minutes left in OT, it looked like Coach Fran Gow was going to be sending his best shooters out. But with 2:09 on the clock, #20 Nathan Smith got his second assist of the night by getting the puck to #17 Trevor Poirier. Poirier was the hero for lighting up the lamp. The team and the crowd went wild with Trevor’s overtime winning goal and fans cheered excessively in agreement when Trevor was announced the Home Star tonight. Great game Trevor! Great game Thunder. Now Thunder has one day off and then five days to prepare for their last match of the season against the Bonnyville Pontiacs which takes place February 1 at 7:30. Let's keep that spark going Thunder.
