Thunder Presents over $8000 to CT4DV

Last night started off with a bang!  The bang was a huge cheque in the amount of $8145.00 that was presented to Colleen Sekura by Paula Maciborsky (jersey sponsor) on behalf of our Drayton Valley Thunder. The proceeds came from the Charity Hockey Game when the jerseys donned by Thunder were auctioned right off their backs at the end of a previous game as well as cash donations. Our Thunder fans pulled together once again in support of a charity that is important to our organization and our town: CT4DV. Thank you again for supporting this worthy cause!
On top of supporting CT4DV, Thunder fans have also been very supportive of our team. As the wins stack up, the cheers, clappers, drumming and horn honking is getting louder. Let’s keep building this team spirit in preparation for the playoffs which is right around the corner. Speaking of playoffs, have you bought your playoff tickets yet?? If not, go to the Thunder office and Erin Hepper will set you up. And, while you are at it, why not arrange for your 2015-2016 Season Tickets. Let’s keep the Thunder rolling!!
As for the win last night….OH MY GOODNESS!!!  I asked the other night, “Will we hear six?” and Thunder answer with a YES!! With the win last night, our Thunder has won against every team in the north now this month.  Thunder lit up the lamp first at the 1:15 mark when local affiliate #25 Derek Willson and #14 Liam Gregor passed the puck to the point where #5 Jacob Wachowicz riffled it passed the Wolverine net minder. The remainder of the evening was a seesaw battle on the score board. Fans saw #9 Jamie Waddington, #11 Brett Smythe # Matt McNeil, #14 Liam Gregor all chalk up points in the first and against Whitecourt so that the team went into the third with a 5-2 lead. Then the celebrations subsided slightly in the third as Whitecourt put three in our net bang, bang, bang. Now Thunder had to shift into second gear.  Only Whitecourt answered back and even took the lead momentarily. But their candle was soon snuffed out when #9 Jamie Waddington scored once more with 58 seconds left in the third to take the game into overtime.
Yep, you heard it—another overtime to add to our stats. At the 3:55 mark in the OT, #11 Brett Smythe slapped his second into the net putting a cork in any thoughts Whitecourt might have had of winning this game. Congrats Brett for being chosen as the Home Star of the evening.
Thanks again Thunder fans for coming out and hope you enjoyed the last six wins to come again but this time bring a friend or two. There are only five league games left before the playoffs begin in March. Four of these games are at home Feb 21, 22, 25 and 27th. All these games begin at 7:30 except Sunday the 22nd. This game will begin at 2:30 followed by a free “Skate with the Thunder”. Bring your helmet and skates and get to meet these young lads on a more personal level. Let’s help keep the team going….Gooooo Thunder!!!
