Thunder hire new Goaltender Coach…


Drayton Valley Alta. – Drayton Valley Thunder, is pleased to announce that the Thunder have hired Goalie Coach Ian Gordon to join our team. 

Head Coach, Kyle Adams commented, “We could not be more pleased to have someone of Ian’s ability and commitment to excellence joining our team.  Ian has a proven 20-year track record of mentoring and developing goalies to achieve their potential.  Ian has always been part of a winning culture, and will be a key contributor to helping us build a team that our fans and supporters will be excited to be part of.”

Ian played in the WHL from 1992-1995 with the Swift Current Broncos and Saskatoon Blades. He had the opportunity to represent the WHL in the 1993 Memorial Cup as a member of the Swift Current Broncos. Ian signed his first pro contract in1995 with the Calgary Flames.  After 2 seasons in the AHL he signed with the Grand Rapids Griffins and spent 3 seasons in the IHL with Grand Rapids, Salt Lake City and Cleveland.  Ian was selected to the 1998 IHL all-star game. He spent 13 years in Germany achieving a league championship in Frankfurt in 2004 and all-star selections in 2008 & 2009. He retired from the DEL as the record holder of most games played as a goalie and most shutouts. Ian has served as a Hockey Canada U17 Coach and is also the goalie coach of the Seattle Thunderbirds (WHL).
