The Drayton Valley Thunder are pleased to announce the addition of Joey McEwan as Assistant Coach and Assistant GM.
Joey will assist Head Coach Corey Bricknell with both coaching and general management duties.
Joey brings a wealth of hockey knowledge and experience to the Thunder. Joey played
Three seasons in the CJHL playing both in the BCHL, MJHL with the OCN Blizzard
and the Merritt Centennials.
He then was recruited to play NCAA Hockey for Marian University, transferring his
sophomore year to Arizona State where he was a part of the number one ranked
college program in the country. In his senior year, he started coaching at Arizona State
where he was a Graduate Coach with the team while earning his degree in Business
Communication.
After University, he returned home to Kelowna, coaching with the Pursuit of Excellence
Hockey Academy, where he coached bantam, and midget AAA teams. Growing up in Kelowna
playing minor hockey, McEwan has a long and successful background in hockey,
having contributed to the sport in many different capacities as a player, coach, and
administrator.
Joey has also worked with B.C. Hockey, managing their high-performance program
while assisting with coaching programs. Through this position, he managed Team
British Columbia in the 2018 Canada Winter Games. After his time with BC Hockey, he
went on to coach and manage successful Junior programs across Canada. This past
season Joey was a scout with the Thunder where he worked with Head Coach Corey Bricknell.
He has a proven track record of promoting players to the next level and is passionate
about working with players both on the ice and in the community. He is excited to be
joining the Thunder in a full-time capacity for this upcoming season and looks forward to
becoming part of the Drayton Valley community.
