Tarno Gets Hard Hat Award Tonight

Our Drayton Valley Thunder checked in at the Max Bell Centre arena in Calgary tonight for their first road trip action of the weekend against the Canuck. Thunder had a bit of a slow start to the game as it was the Canucks who were first to light up the score board—they scored not once but twice before #20 Nathan Smith sizzled the puck past Canuck’s goalie #1 Jeff Orser into the back of the net early in the third period. Four minutes later #3 Austin Yadlowski and #28 Neil Tarnasky paired up so that #12 Mason Malkowich could fire a second goal into the net making it a 2-2 game. A third goal came shortly after this one by the Thunder but it was disappointedly disallowed. The Canuck’s goalie had knocked the net off and received a delay of game penalty for his actions. Thunder could not monopolize on this penalty so the game not only went into a very physical overtime, it went to an intense shoot out. But, unfortunately for Thunder, they had one less shoot-out goal than their opponents leaving it a 3-2 win for Calgary Canucks. On the plus side though, congratulations go out to Thunder’s newest acquisition, #23 Doug Jones who ripped a shoot-out goal into the net. Awesome goal Doug!! Congratulations as well to #28 Neil Tarnasky. The hard hat gets planted on your head again for your effort on the ice. So now with this outcome, one point is added to the Thunder‘s standings in the north division putting them in third place with 53 points—this being one point behind Grand Prairie Storm and 5 behind Spruce Grove Saints  who is the leader in the tight pack in the north.  Next away game for the Thunder is tomorrow night when they take on the Canmore Eagles. Puck drop is again at 7:00. Good luck Thunder! Let’s bring those points home. Gooooo Thunderrrrr!!!
