Tanner Hopps Acquired For 2018-2019 Season

Drayton Valley Alberta – The Drayton Valley Thunder is pleased to announce they have acquired Tanner Hopps for the 2018-19 season. Hopps joins the Thunder as part of an elaborate set of trades that involved the Drayton Valley Thunder, the Victoria Grizzlies, the Penticton Vees and the Langley Rivermen. Ultimately, the trade sends Trevor Arye back to the Langley Rivermen.

Tanner, a 5’10 2000 born forward from North Delta, BC played 49 games in the BCHL with the Victoria Grizzles. Prior to playing with the Grizzles, Hopps played in the CSSHL at Delta Hockey Academy and as a 17 year old, he put up 39 points in 30 games or 1.29 points a game.

“Tanner is a highly skilled player who we will be looking to score goals both 5 on 5 and as part of our power play.  Hopps is an incredibly hard working young athlete who consistently does what it takes to develop his abilities. He is a high quality player with a great character both on and off the ice,” said new Head Coach and General Manager, Eric Thurston. “ He will be valuable not only because of his talent but also his work ethic and character.  Another important piece in Drayton Valley as we build our winning culture on the ice and within our community.”

Tanner is excited to join the Thunder! He looks forward to joining this team being built by Coach Thurston.  A team of character and skill both with the young new guys, the recent acquisitions and returning veterans.  He hopes this season will be a break out year for him and an opportunity for him to develop into a team leader.
