Sieben’s Turn With The Hard Hat Award

Well tonight, in the match against the Olds Grizzlys, our Drayton Valley Thunder was quick to score the first goal in a power play. It happened when #26 Kaiden Tobin and #17 Trevor Poirier partnered up to get a puck over to # 18 Jordan Baillie who found a spot in the back of the net, but that is where it stopped. Olds followed with three unanswered goal in the first , two of them as power plays.
Second period started much better when #21 Eric Sieben punched two more in for the Thunder, one unassisted and his second of the night set up by #9 Brendan McKay and #20 Nathan Smith. The rest of that period went back and forth but unfortunately for Thunder, the Olds Grizzlys put two quick ones in at the end of the second.
As hard as Thunder tried to pick up a couple more points, and they had their chances registering 13-2 shots on net, the third period was scoreless. Thunder ended up on the short end of the stick with a final score of 5-3. There was even one point that Thunder fans were celebrating because several saw the puck in the net and were thinking #21 Eric Sieben had a hat trick but the referee saw it differently. But for his efforts of the night, Seibs did get the Home Star title for the night. Way to go Eric! Let’s see more of that again next game when Thunder opens the doors for Fort McMurray Oil Barons this Thursday, January 24 with the puck dropping at 7:30. See you there Thunder fans.
