The Drayton Valley Thunder would like to congratulate Rocky Rapids native Mason Geertsen on his tremendous accomplishment of getting drafted in last Sunday's NHL Draft. Mason was selected in the fourth round, 93rd overall by the Colorado Avalanche.
Although Mason never played with the Thunder throughout his career, his family however took on Thunder players as reliable billets and we thank them for their support. No longer living in Rocky Rapids, the Geertsen's should be proud of their son for his tremendous hard work and dedication to the game of hockey.
Mason started his hockey career as a 16 year old playing in the Western Hockey League with the Edmonton Oil Kings, before being traded to the Vancouver Giants this past season. Mason flourished this season, setting career highs in goals, assists, points and penalty minutes, all while logging large minuets on a young Giants squad.
Once again the Thunder wish to congratulate Mason on this accomplishment and wish both him and his family the best of luck in their future endeavours.
