Four Point Weekend

The Hockey Gods made for a perfect weekend for Drayton Valley Thunder and Thunder fans. First, picking up two points by cleaning Calgary Canuck’s clock 8-2 was an awesome start to the weekend. Second, Thunder picked up another two points by holding a one-point lead compliments of #28 Robert Cain for the entire game against the Barons. Unfortunately, the Barons were allowed to tie it up on a power play late in the third. The game stayed tied throughout the remainder of the third as well as the overtime period taking the game into a shootout.  The shootout went back and forth through several shooters until #18 Troy Rapuano found the back of the net closing the game in Thunder’s favor. Tonight’s Home Star was awarded to #33 Garret Mason for being a solid wall. Garret shut out 39 shots during the games as well as all five Baron shots in the shootout.
After the game, many Thunder fans had a riot when they flooded onto the ice to join the Thunder in a skate followed by a pizza party for the Junior Thunder member. After pizza was a game of “Find The Thunder Bingo” as well as a tour of the Thunder Dressing to finish off the night led by the Thunder players.
This coming week Thunder will be on the ice practicing for the next two days and then Wednesday, they will travel to challenge the Sherwood Park Crusaders. This game will be followed by another two days of practice before they load the bus once again to make a swing around Bonnyville and Lloydminster. Good luck against the Crusaders, Pontiacs and Bobcats. Gooooo Thunder!!!
