Drayton Valley Thunder Sign Local Product Cohen Carter for Upcoming Season
DRAYTON VALLEY, AB – The Drayton Valley Thunder are proud to announce the signing of Drayton Valley native, Cohen Carter, for the upcoming 2025-2026 AJHL season. The 2007-born right-handed defenseman has committed to playing for his hometown team, bringing his skill and passion to the Thunder lineup.
Carter, a product of the Drayton Valley Minor Hockey system, spent last season with the Trail Smoke Eaters of the BCHL, and prior to that, the South Alberta Hockey Academy (SAHA) U18 Prep team during the 2023-2024 season
“While it’s always great to have a local player join the team, we are most excited about Cohen’s character, talent and growth potential,” said Thunder General Manager & Head Coach, Jeff Truitt. “He’s a talented young player with a tremendous work ethic, and our hockey operations staff have been watching his development closely. We believe he has the potential to be a key contributor for us and we’re looking forward to seeing him realize his potential and win championships with the Thunder.”
For Carter, the opportunity to play for the Thunder is a dream come true. “I’m pumped and honored to sign with the Thunder,” said Carter. “I’ve grown up watching this team and to have the chance to wear the jersey is something I’ve always wanted. I feel that Drayton Valley represents an elite place to compete and develop. When I sat with my family this summer, it was clear to me that with the changes in the organization, and Coach Truitt’s track record, that coming home was the right thing to do. I’m grateful to Coach Truitt and the entire organization for this opportunity, and I’m ready to work hard, earn my spot, and lead by example doing whatever I can to help the team succeed.”

The Drayton Valley Thunder Training Camp begins August 23rd, with the season starting September 19th at home against the Olds Grizzlys.
