Daryl Winter Promoted to Director of Player Personnel for the Drayton Valley Thunder

Drayton Valley, AB – July 24th, 2025 – The Drayton Valley Thunder is pleased to announce the promotion of Daryl Winter to the role of Director of Player Personnel, effective immediately, replacing the outgoing Scott Pimblott.

Winter has been an integral part of the Thunder organization, most recently serving as Head Scout. His deep understanding of player talent, dedication to identifying key prospects, and commitment to the team’s vision have been instrumental in the Thunder’s recruiting efforts.

A key figure during the recent ownership transition, Winter’s deep alignment with the values and vision of both ownership and the new team management makes him exceptionally suited for this expanded leadership position. In his new role, Winter will now oversee all aspects of player recruitment, scouting, and development strategies for the organization. He will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with scouts, agents, and junior hockey programs to ensure the Thunder continues to attract and develop top-tier talent.

“We’re thrilled to promote Daryl to Director of Player Personnel,” said Jeff Truitt, General Manager and Head Coach of the Drayton Valley Thunder. “Daryl’s passion for the game, keen eye for talent, and tireless work ethic make him the ideal person to lead our player personnel department. This promotion reflects his significant contributions to our team and our confidence in his ability to shape the future success of the Thunder.”

Winter expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and his eagerness to contribute to his new role. “I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity and excited to take on the role of Director of Player Personnel,” said Winter. “Drayton Valley is my hometown, and I love the Thunder.  I look forward to building & working closely with our scouting staff along with Jeff, Josh, and Eric to build a championship-caliber roster and build tradition of excellence both on and off the ice.”

The organization would like to reiterate our thanks to Scott Pimblott for all of his contributions to the Thunder and wish him well in his future endeavours.

The Drayton Valley Thunder Training Camp begins August 23rd, with the season starting September 19th at home against the Olds Grizzlys.
