Benko Twins Make Double Commitment

The Drayton Valley Thunder would like to congratulate Matt and Tyler Benko on committing to continue their hockey careers at Concordia University in Edmonton of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference starting in the fall of 2017. 

Matt and Tyler both finished their three-year career in the AJHL having career years in points. Matt scored 15 times which was second best among AJHL defensemen and had 12 assists for 27 points in 57 games. Tyler scored 17 times tying for the team lead and added 18 assists for 35 points in 50 games. 

Matt spent all three years with Drayton Valley, which was capped off by him being named Captain in November of his final season.  Tyler spent his three years with Drayton Valley and the Calgary Canucks. Tyler was a leader for the Thunder in his final season being named an assistant captain. 

“We are very excited to add talented players like Tyler and Matt to our program. Their character and leadership attributes will be great assets for our team and help contribute to our positive team culture” stated Concordia coach Dan Glegloff.

“Concordia is getting two very quality young men for their hockey program. Both Matt and Tyler are both very deserving of this opportunity to continue their playing careers. I wish them all the best in their futures on and off the ice” commented Drayton Valley Coach Jesse Dorrans.

The Thunder would like to thank Matt and Tyler for all their hard work and wish them the best of luck with their future endeavors.
